RPL Duration
Depending on the level of support that each participant’s desires, different options exist:
Self-directed | Who should participate: This approach best suits the experienced professional, with solid academic fundamentals and who enjoys working independently |
| Number of contact days: 3 Day 1: The learner is introduced to the requirements and expectations of the programme. The facilitator will explain the expected outcomes and how the necessary evidence needs to collected and how it will be assessed. Day 2: After having returned back into the work environment to assemble the Portfolio of Evidence, the learners meet up again to discuss progress and deal with any questions that arise. Day 3: Once the learner has completed the portfolio of evidence, a final review day is scheduled. During that time any outstanding issues will be addressed. The Portfolio of Evidence will be completed and submitted for assessment. |
Supported | Who should participate: This approach includes more contact time and is therefore suited to learners who work best in the company of others and benefit from more academic support. This approach is probably better suited to those who have not been in a formal learning environment for quite some time. |
| Number of contact days: 7 Similar to the self-directed approach, the first and last day initially introduces the learner to the requirements of the programme and then reviews the Portfolio of Evidence at the end. During the other five days, a topic is covered each day. In that way, the learners get the needed support and feedback from their facilitator. This approach is more structured, making it easier for the learner to pace themselves as the material is broken up in to bite size chunks. |
